Four students from E. F. Green Junior School represented Goose Creek CISD at the MATHCOUNTS state competition in Austin during spring break. Team members were Sadvi Koora, Ananya Sood, Anay Gupta and Alexander Romeo, coached by Janette Cruz.

Students must qualify in the chapter competition to earn the opportunity to compete at state. This year the team from Green won second place team and the team from Highlands Junior School took third place in the chapter competition.
“Texas Society of Professional Engineers organizes both the chapter and state competitions for MATHCOUNTS in Texas, and winners from the state competition attend a national competition. are excited to have students make it to state,” said Emily Makosa, 6-8 district math specialist.
The MATHCOUNTS program is a math enrichment initiative providing the structure and activities needed to encourage the formation of math club within the schools. The program is designed to increase enthusiasm for math and to engage students using a variety of math activities.
