Goose Creek CISD Will Serve up Good Nutrition for Local Children This Summer
05/31/2023

Bringing healthy summer meals to Goose Creek CISD children ensures kids have a healthy vacation and return to school ready to learn.

Baytown, TX – This summer, Goose Creek CISD will connect children 18 and younger and enrolled student with disabilities up to 21 years old with healthy, no cost summer meals. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition program administered in the Lone Star State by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). For the children who rely on school meals during the academic year, these meals offer a source of good nutrition when school is out for the long summer vacation.

Baytown children need good nutrition year-round so they can learn, grow, and succeed in life,” said Natalie Edwards, Nutrition Services Director. “With nearly 2 million food insecure children living in Texas, these healthy meals are vital to nourishing young Texans during the summer vacation.”

Breakfast and lunch will be available beginning May 30th at the 12 Goose Creek CISD campuses that are offering summer school classes. Children do not have to go to the school that they are assigned to, they can get a free meal from whichever summer school campus is closest to them. No ID will be required to receive a meal. Students must eat the meal in the cafeteria. Free lunch will also be available Monday – Friday beginning May 30th at Sterling Library from 10:15-10:45AM; Pelly Park 10:30-11:00 a.m.; Jenkins Park from 11:00-11:30 a.m.; at Central Heights Park 11:15-11:45 a.m. and San Jacinto Community Center in Highlands from 12:00-12:30 p.m. Meals received at the park, community center and library must be consumed by the child on-site.
