Joy Floyd, Champion of Compassion

Joy Floyd, a dedicated special education teacher at Gentry Junior School, has been honored with the prestigious James Becker Thomson Award for Special Education Teacher of the Year at Goose Creek CISD. Established in 1976 by Dr. Richard Thompson, the award pays tribute to his brother Jamie, who greatly benefited from the compassionate care and support of special education teachers in California and Texas.

Having joined the district in 2020, Joy Floyd has demonstrated exceptional commitment and passion in her role, positively impacting the lives of her students and embodying the values that the James Becker Thomson Award stands for. Her dedication to her students' education, combined with her patience and kindness, reflects the essence of what it means to be an outstanding special education teacher.
