The first annual "Here, We Grow Giants" luncheon was held at the Nuevo Leon Events Center in Baytown on May 10, 2024. The event’s purpose was to celebrate outstanding GIANTS within the community. Since its inception in 2019, the district has recognized one giant student, staff member, and alumnus at monthly celebrations.

Sponsored by Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, more than 150 giants have been honored for their exceptional achievements and positive impact, in the last 5 years. This year’s luncheon continued the tradition of celebrating excellence and service. Highlighting the event were the awards presented to the giants of the year. Each giant received AirPod Pros, generously presented by Laurie Terry, the hospital's Director of Business Development.

Nathan Malonson, a senior at Ross S. Sterling High School, was named the Giant Student of the Year, recognizing his outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to community service.

Johan Richards, a CTE teacher and robotics coach at Robert E. Lee High School, was honored as the Giant Staff Member of the Year for his dedication to educating and inspiring students both inside and outside the classroom.

Angie Johnson, a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School from the Class of 1997, was recognized as the Giant Alumnus of the Year for her continued contributions to the community and for serving as a role model for future generations.

The "Here, We Grow Giants" luncheon serves to recognize and celebrate individuals who make a positive difference on Goose Creek CISD. As the district looks forward to the 2024-2025 school year, the hope is that others are inspired with the continued growth and impact of these giants.
