Mission of the GC2035 Committee

The Goose Creek 2035 (GC2035) Committee has been created to evaluate, identify and prioritize the needs of the school district and to provide a platform for community members to offer input and stay informed about the district’s plans for the future. The committee will support our school board in the development of a plan to address the following considerations during the upcoming school year.

Long-Range Facilities Plan

  • The committee will provide a recommendation to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees based on the condition of district facilities, educational adequacy, and the potential need for future development to complete a district long-range facility plan.
  • Long-range facility planning involves the strategic process of forecasting and preparing for the future needs of our district. This type of planning ensures that our facilities can accommodate growth, changing legal specifications, or evolving technologies over time.

District Rezoning

  • The committee will review district rezoning options and public feedback to provide input to district administration for the rezoning of district campuses.
  • School rezoning refers to the process of changing the residential boundaries that determine which school a student will attend. This can occur for various reasons, including shifts in student population, the opening or closing of schools, or efforts to balance enrollment numbers among schools.

In the future, this committee may also support bond planning, upon consideration of the rezoning outcome, and the determination of such identified urgent needs by GC2035.

The committee will include up to 100 members – consisting of parents, community members, business leaders, recent graduates, school district retirees, current students, and staff members. Individuals on the committee must reside in a Goose Creek CISD attendance zone.

The GC2035 recommendations will be provided to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees for consideration.

Community Participation

The GC2035 is committed to providing the public the opportunity to participate, per district communications and visitor guidelines. Although the GC2035 will be an open committee, meetings will be restricted to those who have applied and agreed to the GC2035 commitments. Committee applications are open to the public and will be accepted from August 6 through August 19. The GC2035 Committee will be capped at 100 participants. In the event more than 100 applications are submitted, a selection process will be overseen by the Board of Trustees. Minutes of each meeting will be posted on the district’s website.
