Pushing Toward Success
11/30/2022

Dear Goose Creek CISD Family,

November and December may be some of our shortest months due to the holiday season, but they definitely remain some of our busiest as well!

This Fall, our district recognized the accomplishments of a Goose Creek giant, Al Dennis, during a special naming ceremony on November 3rd. Dennis is a former Sterling High School football coach who, in 1972, led his football team to a district championship title; the only championship in the school’s history. Teammates that played with Dennis as a student athlete at Lee High School, family, friends, colleagues and his 1972 team filled the stands at Sterling in honor of Coach Dennis’ impact on the school and the district. What made the event even more special was seeing his 1972 team be recognized on the eve of their 50th anniversary during the annual Lee versus Sterling game on November 4th. Dennis’ name will forever be emblazoned on the football field at Sterling and a plaque honoring his accomplishments can be found in the entrance to the stadium.

Our district also celebrated our veterans with a very active social media campaign for Veterans Day. We encouraged our staff that were in the Armed Forces to submit photos and our Community Engagement department shared those photos on social media. Serving in the military is a selfless job and we can’t thank them enough for the sacrifices they have made for us.

We honored our educational support staff on November 16th and our substitutes on November 18th. Our educational support staff are an integral part of the success of our district. The impact they make on our campuses, specifically in our classrooms, does not go unnoticed. Our students and staff look to them for support and consistency and they provide that to them and so much more. We cannot do what we do without our x-factor support members.

As we prepare for the final three weeks of 2022, we want to encourage our students and staff to continue pushing toward success. You’ve done the work and you will soon reap the reward; so keep pushing! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and may you be blessed as we approach the Christmas/Winter break!

Warm Regards,

Dr. Randal O'Brien
